Dynamics 365 Licensing Can Be Confusing—But It Doesn’t Have to Be! Microsoft Dynamics 365 offers powerful tools to transform your business—but navigating its licensing and pricing can feel overwhelming. The good news? With a clear understanding of the 2025 updates, you can avoid overpaying and ensure you’re only paying for what your organization truly needs. Visit our Power Platform and Dynamics 365 Pricing page (updated for 2025).
Let’s break it down step by step so you can choose the right license with confidence.
Understanding Dynamics 365 Licensing in 2025
In 2019, Microsoft retired its old “Plan 1 vs Plan 2” model and introduced a more flexible structure: Base license + Attach licenses.

🔹 What Is a Base License?
Your base license is your primary application—like Sales Enterprise or Customer Service—assigned to each user.
🔹 What Is an Attach License?
Attach licenses are discounted add-ons. If a user already is licensed for Sales Enterprise but needs Customer Service functionality for their job, a Customer Service Attach license can be purchased and provisioned for that user.
Example:
- Sales Enterprise (Base): $105/user/month
- Customer Service Enterprise (Attach): $20/user/month
- Total: $125/month for two full apps
Attach licenses can only be added to users who already have a qualifying base license. Each user can only have one base license.

Choosing the Right License for Your Business
The flexibility of 2025 Dynamics 365 licensing means you can build a solution tailored to your team’s roles and responsibilities. Here’s how to approach it:
⇒Sales Teams
- Start with Sales Enterprise
- Add Customer Service or Field Service as attach licenses if needed
⇒Service Teams
- Use Customer Service Enterprise as base
- Add Sales as attach if cross-functional support is needed
⇒Project-Based Firms
- Start with Project Operations
- Consider attaching Sales or Customer Service licenses depending on team structure
⇒Want to save money?
- Use Team Member licenses ($8/user/month) for light users who only need basic access (read-only, approvals, timesheets)
How to Buy Licenses
You can purchase licenses:
- Through Microsoft’s Cloud Solution Providers (CSPs) like enCloud9
- Via the Microsoft 365 admin center
- With annual or monthly commitment options (annual is more cost-effective). Many of our clients choose to go with an annual license because of the cost effectiveness).
